dee Josephine Hollywood
dee Josephine Hollywood She is laughing, but the body language couldn't be clearer – Kate Mosscovers her bare breasts with an arm, and hunches over, trying to conceal the rest of her naked body with a sunhat. The photograph, one of a series taken by Corinne Day that also included a topless photograph, appeared in the Face magazine in 1990 and launched Moss's career, though two decades on she does not remember the shoot as a happy one.
"I see a 16-year-old now, and to ask her to take her clothes off would feel really weird," she says in an interview with Vanity Fair. "But they were like: If you don't do it, then we're not going to book you again. So I'd lock myself in the toilet and cry and then come out and do it. I never felt very comfortable about it."
Moss also tells the magazine that she sought medical help for anxiety two years later. "Nobody takes care of you mentally. There's a massive pressure to do what you have to do."
This happened 20 years ago – and Moss, of course, went on to have a phenomenally successful career, becoming one of the most powerfulmodels, and remained close to Day.
Other models, though, say the industry is not much different now. "Nothing has really changed," says Victoria Keon-Cohen, a model and founding chair of Equity's Models' Committee, which now has around 800 members. "Until we started the union there wasn't any recognition of this kind of treatment in the industry. We wanted to help young models assert themselves and understand what rights they have. Unfortunately what Kate is talking about does still happen and has happened to me."
"It is not uncommon for models who are children to be asked to take nude or semi-nude photos," agrees Sara Ziff. "I started modelling at 14 and there were several occasions where I was put on the spot to take topless photos." Ziff founded the Model Alliance union in the US to set standards, and doesn't think "significant change is going to happen until there are laws that protect child models in the way other child performers are protected". In a previous interview, she described how, when a 16-year-old model complained that a 45-year-old photographer had propositioned her, "her agency said she should have slept with him".
But as Moss's comments show, it isn't only predatory men who are the problem, but a blurring between sexual imagery and fashion, and the models who have to negotiate it are often young – and fear speaking out.
For any model worried about their career, the pressure to keep quiet is strong enough, she says, "And then you've got girls from eastern Europe who are responsible for supporting their families."
"There will always be horror stories, but I think it's a less frequent occurrence now because I think everyone is much more aware of [models' wellbeing]," says Rosie Vogel, bookings editor at Vogue. "These younger girls often have chaperones - their agent would be there." Vogue's minimum age limit for models is 16. "Not everyone has the ethics that we do, and you can't police everyone. There will be people who will exploit girls but hopefully it's getting better. A lot of the girls are more outspoken and they're not as afraid to say they are not comfortable."
Do agencies do enough to support their models? (Storm, Moss's agency since she started, didn't respond for this piece). "Some do look after their girls, but they are a business and they have a lot of models to take care of so it is very difficult to make sure the support is consistently there. That's another reason we started – so models can have their own access to counsellors and a support network. It is improving but it's a long road," says Keon-Cohen.

310-973-7315Comedienne Susie Essman provided most of the laughter May 22 at the Museum of the Moving Image gala in Gotham. According to the erstwhile “Curb Your Enthusiasm” thesp, she just doesn’t understand why networks are targeting the 19-24 demo.
“I have four kids, aged 19-25, and let me tell you, they’re fucking idiots,” she told the St. Regis crowd. “I blame it on the bike helmets. These kids didn’t get enough concussions when they were little.”
Essman’s name came up a couple of times during the night.
“Yeah, that’s fucking brilliant going after Susie,” said Nancy Duboc, who was there to present A+E Networks colleague Abbe Raven (pictured center) with her award.
“One of the great honors is to be insulted by Susie,” said Charter  Communications’ Tom Rutledge, also being honored.
Regarding the award itself, the Museum’s Herbert Schlosser (pictured left) struggled to free it from the Tiffany’s wrapping and box. “I think next time we’ll unwrap it first,” he added.
Upon receiving her honor, Raven gushed, “When I started as a production assistant copying scripts in 1982, I never would’ve imagined I’d be standing here.”

DEE JOSEPHINE PICS HEADSHOTS

DEE JOSEPHINE PICS HEADSHOTS Yes, I’m writing about why you DIDN’T get the part. Yes, even though your audition was amazing and you were totally on your game and you lit up the room with creative acting genius, you still might not get the part. I know, I know…you’re probably thinking, but Amy, you are always so positive. Why are you talking about something negative?
First, it’s not negative to understand why you didn’t get a job because it will free your mind of all that monkey-mind chatter that happens when you find out you didn’t get it. Second, and this is the important part so pay attention, it doesn't matter. By the end of this article, I hope you understand that.
Since this is one of the most frequently asked questions I receive and the one that hangs you up the most and twists you into knots as an actor and a creative being, let’s get into it.
Based on my years and years of experience as a casting director in film and television, these are some of the reasons you didn’t get the part.

DEE JOSEPHINE PICS HEADSHOTS

DEE JOSEPHINE PICS HEADSHOTS  news programs concern themselves with justice Tuesday night, and the one people are less likely to watch is clearly the more worthy and extraordinary. A PBS “Frontline” production, “Outlawed in Pakistan” deals with the alleged gang rape of a young girl, and the devastating consequences on her and her family. CBS News, meanwhile, plays the good soldier with “Brooklyn DA,” a by-the-numbers docu-series offered as original summer filler, in much the way ABC News steadily delivers such alternative fare to its network. If it’s an either-or choice, the verdict here isn’t close.
Written and directed by Habiba Nosheen and Hilke Schellmann, “Outlawed” chronicles the story of Kainat Soomro, who claims to have been kidnapped and repeatedly raped by four men at the age of 13. Instead of outlawing her or putting her to death, her family stands behind her, in a culture where the woman is blamed and labeled “impure” simply for leveling such charges.
Still, the evidence is hardly cut and dried, inasmuch as none was collected, and there’s no DNA testing to prove Kainat’s case in the face of denials from the accused. Yet as her lawyer puts it, given the stigma associated with such claims by young women (we’re told matter-of-factly Kainat will never be able to marry), “Why would this girl lie?”

dee Josephine pics Headshots Hollywood has a way of deriving the wrong lessons from both failure and success. So in bidding a final farewell to “Smash” — which wrapped up its tumultuous two-season run with a “Let’s dump this on Memorial Day weekend” two-hour finale Sunday — a few parting thoughts.
Whenever something ostensibly risky doesn’t work, TV execs — particularly those laboring at the major networks — like to use that to bolster their impulse to stick to the tried and true. In this case, many argued before the series premiered that it’s primarily elites on the coasts who attend musical theater, so it’s easy for showbiz types to delude themselves into thinking there’s a mass audience for a series about a Broadway show. Frankly, this argument is as old as “Cop Rock,” which — unlike “Smash” — didn’t even open.
Still, “Smash” didn’t fail because it was a musical soap opera. It failed because (unlike “Cop Rock”) it was a bad musical soap opera — or more specifically, because the promise of its first few episodes and thrill of discovering its female leads vying for the part of Marilyn Monroe, Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty, wasn’t sustained past episode three. The margin for error might be smaller for a show like “Smash,” but assuming that’s true, there were nevertheless far too many creative missteps to survive.
The producers, moreover, stumbled not with the relative unknowns they assembled, but foremost with the recognizable names, particularly Debra Messing and to a lesser degree Anjelica Huston. In short, they seemingly didn’t trust a show about hungry young Broadway wannabes to get by on theatrical talent, but rather felt compelled to surround them with stars, whose plots were almost uniformly teeth-gnashing. Stunt casting in the later episodes (Sean Hayes, all is not forgiven) only made matters worse.
As New York Times theater critic Charles Isherwood shrewdly observed, the series repeatedly engaged in “the kind of compromises that can turn an edgy, fresh show into something that resembles a bland, assembly-line-produced product: precisely what ‘Smash’ turned out to be.” Indeed, it’s hard to say “Smash” lacked the courage of its convictions, because in hindsight, it’s hard to discern what those convictions were.
Finally, NBC did the show no favors by continuing to cling to its “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for” public-relations approach when many perceived (correctly, I’d argue) that the program had gone off the rails creatively in addition to losing a sizable chunk of its audience. That included NBC Entertainment chief Robert Greenblatt adhering to his description of the program as “an unqualified success,” when you didn’t need to be a research ace to recognize the claim didn’t hold water.
The closing hours highlighted just how seriously the show had lost its way, which included producing music videos that dispensed with any connection between original songs being rehearsed and performed on stage and people walking down the street (multiple people, in the case of a tepid cover of Queen’s “Under Pressure”) belting out tunes. Fittingly, the final image (andSPOILER ALERT, assuming anyone cares) was a McPhee-Hilty show-stopper, which only reinforced, in a melancholy way, just how much the initial spark had been lost.
During the finale, Messing’s character huffs at one point that the press “will twist anything for a story.”
Perhaps so. But in the case of “Smash,” the media vultures didn’t really need to bother. The show failed. But that’s not a referendum on musicals, or serialized dramas, or shows with too many gay characters, or networks trying to do something a little bit different or outside their comfort zones.
It’s simply a referendum on “Smash.”

dee josephine pics headshots There are two questions regarding “Arrested Development,” which returned this weekend via Netflix: Is it good — or as good as it was — and does that really matter? Regarding the second, probably not. That’s because Netflix is emulating HBO by playing the attention-getting game, and as with “House of Cards,” reviving this Emmy-winning comedy has brought the service ample media coverage, reinforcing the perceived value of its original-programming efforts. So a vacillating answer to the first part is virtually irrelevant, especially since Netflix opted not to make episodes available in advance, allowing die-hards and critics (in this case, a group with considerable overlap) to weigh in simultaneously.
Unlike “House of Cards” — a fine if hardly groundbreaking serialized drama— the prospect of binge viewing (Netflix’s main distribution innovation) this new 15-episode batch of “Arrested Development” feels less like a treat than a rather numbing burden. The program’s arched eyebrows, rapid-fire gags and snark actually play better when spread out, and trying to power through multiple episodes felt exactly like that — a bit like cramming for a test the night before.
That’s not to say the cast and series creator Mitchell Hurwitz (who directed with Troy Miller) don’t deliver their share of moments, although the format has a way of blunting them. Each episode essentially focuses on one of the characters, but they frequently intersect — an ambitious narrative approach, if one also seemingly designed to narrow the program’s appeal even further. Inasmuch as the show was canceled for precisely that niche quality despite all its accolades, it’s perhaps advantageous Netflix has resisted releasing user data, allowing the media to create its own echo chamber amplifying the show’s impact, irrespective of the reality.
